Ground Hoppers for Polymer Concrete Manufacturing Print

Application: Metering of either large or small aggregate for continuous casting of polymer concrete products.

The Polymer Concrete Ground Hopper is generally used in conjunction with Gruber Systems’ Autocaster Ultra Polymer Concrete (P/C) continuous casting system. Ground Hoppers provide a longer term supply of fillers to the metering hoppers mounted on top of the Autocaster system - so that the continuous casting capability of the Autocaster is not interrupted by the need to resupply the metering hoppers.



The Polymer Concrete Ground Hopper automates the supply of powders such as Calcium Carbonate, as well as small - large aggregates needed for polymer concrete matrix. Use of the Ground Hopper reduces labor costs, improves production efficiencies and reduces wastage (material cost).

Now! Both Auger-based and Belt-Drive based transport mechanisms for processing any polymer concrete filler/aggregate.

Auger-Based Transport Ground Hoppers

Recommended for most polymer concrete manufacturing requirements

Gruber's Auger-based Ground Hoppers offer these features:

  • 500 cu/in per minute throughput capacity (based on calcium carbonate blends)
  • Solid core auger constructed from carbon steel, progressive pitch. 45 degree incline
  • Overall height 57.5” x 42.5” x 45” (LWH) excluding auger
  • Large, rugged 15 cubic feet capacity bin constructed of 12 gauge carbon steel
  • Powerful 3 HP 120/230/460 volt motor
  • Sealed dust tight drive and idler bearings with transmission ratio of 10:1 (standard)
  • 2-way forklift entries for convenient positioning
  • Screen for reducing introduction of bag scraps and other debris from reaching auger
  • Chain clamps for securing bulk bag hopper support

A standard Ground Hopper set up to transfer smaller aggregates (such as sand), as well as powder fillers such as Calcium Carbonate.

Large Aggregate Ground Hopper


Auger-based Ground Hopper configured for processing of larger aggregates of up to 3/8” (7 mm).

Note: While this unit can transport larger aggregates up to 3/8" diameter, we highly recommend the Belt-Drive System below for processing of the most abrasive aggregates that would cause extraordinary wear to the augers utilized on this Ground Hopper.

Note: This Ground Hopper can process powders, but its performance is not optimal for those materials.

Heavy-Duty Belt-Drive Polymer Concrete Ground Hopper

Superior performance for the most demanding polymer concrete filler handling requirements

This new Ground Hopper utilizes a tough, durable belt-drive transport mechanism that provides a superior (but more expensive) technology for processing of aggregates or powders for polymer concrete manufacturing. The belt drive accepts almost any aggregate without jamming, and is considerably more durable when handling abrasive materials or heavy materials compared to auger-based systems. Since the belt drive won't wear nearly as fast as an auger system for many materials, the belt-drive system offers more reliable service, longer operating intervals between service, and lower maintenance costs compared to auger-based systems. Depending on the filler used, this may be a more economical long-term alternative to an auger-based Ground Hopper.
The Belt Drive System excels at transporting these and other fillers for polymer concrete manufacturing:
- Quartz
- Sand
- Pea Gravel
- Small Rock
- Calcium Carbonate (and other powder fillers)
Note: the maximum size aggregates that can be processed is not limited by this belt-drive Ground Hopper, but rather the auger-based metering hoppers used on the AutoCaster Ultra PC (Polymer Concrete) continous casting machine. Check with Gruber if you have any unusual or very large aggregates. The maximum aggregate size aggregate limitation on the Autocaster PC is approximately 3/8" diameter.

Ground Hopper Accessories

The Ground Hopper is one element of a complete bulk filler handling system. All Gruber Ground Hoppers can accommodate either bulk bags (super sacks) or individual bags of filler. See a complete summary of all bulk filler handling accessories shown below.
